ADOLESCENTES
The CB Canarias Foundation identified some time ago a demand for basketball among the teenage community. These are young people who enjoy basketball, but with a different approach to the sport than that offered by clubs and federations.
Therefore, with the start of the 25/24 course, the recreational-sports activity organized jointly with CB Canarias called ‘A morning of basketball with CB Canarias’ was launched, framed within the project ‘No to addictions, yes to basketball, choose life’ of the Department of Attention to Drug Dependencies of the City Council of La Laguna.
This is a series of meetings aimed at 2nd year ESO students from the institutes of La Laguna, which aims to promote healthy lifestyle habits among teenagers in the municipality and to fight against all types of addictive behaviors, using basketball as a means.
Each session involves around 120 students from various schools. Activities include basketball, dance, and a session led by a psychologist.
In the 2024/25 academic year, the “Teenagers’ Encounter” activity was also launched at the CEIP Cardonal I school in La Laguna. The following year, a second school, CEIP Camino de la Villa, joined the program. Both initiatives received support from the Department of Social Welfare of the La Laguna City Council.
The aim is to make basketball more accessible to young people who enjoy the sport but haven’t yet taken the plunge, as well as to those who have played it in the past and now want to get back into it. It also seeks to create opportunities for young people to meet, engage in physical activity, and get to know each other better. In other words, the goal is to promote both sport and community.
