Events
The Puertos de Tenerife Tournament, La Laguna’s Noche en Blanco (White Night) and Expodeca are three examples of events in which the CB Canarias Foundation is involved, either as a promoter or as a collaborator.
With the aim of bringing the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife closer to the island’s capital, in 2013 the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Club Baloncesto Canarias social project called “Tenerife, aquí jugamos todos” (Tenerife, we all play here) jointly organised the 1st Minibasket Tournament – Christmas Ports of Tenerife 2013, an activity related to the promotion of sport and basketball.
The event, organised in its first three editions on the esplanade of the Santa Cruz Pier, in the area where the Port Authority’s Christmas concert is traditionally held, was attended by basketball teams from all over the island, in the male and female mini-basketball categories, with the Federation organising an official day for the island league in these categories.
The forced suspension of the fourth edition in 2016, due to inclement weather, led to the decision to change the date of the event so that it would no longer coincide with the Christmas season. A change of location was also decided upon, with the event being organised in the vicinity of Plaza de España, on Avenida del Litoral, specifically on Avenida Francisco La Roche (opposite Alameda Duque Santa Elena). The new location, which was much more accessible as it was on the same level as the Cabildo area, led to the transformation of the tournament into a gathering of basketball schools from all over the island in a fun, family-friendly, non-competitive atmosphere.
With the resumption of the event in April 2017, the Canarias Basketball Club Foundation joined in, and it was held until 2020, when it was suspended again due to COVID-19. The competition resumed in 2023 and has since been a great success in terms of participation and organisation, with almost a thousand participants taking part directly, as well as a large audience.
Another event historically linked to the black and gold spirit is La Laguna’s Noche en Blanco (White Night). In recent years, the Foundation has been organising a basketball and entertainment area on Calle San Agustín, with games and a stand selling products from the club shop.
And Expodeca-Feria de la Actividad Física y el Deporte en Canarias (Canary Islands Physical Activity and Sports Fair) was the latest event to which the Foundation joined. This annual meeting, sponsored by the Canary Islands Government, has become a showcase and meeting point for all sports in the archipelago, and the Canarian Foundation could not miss it to give visibility to its numerous projects.
