At the end of 2024, the CB Canarias Foundation presented the ‘Inclusive and Adapted Basketball Training Course’, a project aimed at coaches, sports instructors and anyone interested in expanding inclusive and adapted basketball on the island.
The initiative, coordinated by the company In Psicología, had the support of Apanate (Canary Islands Association for Autism Spectrum Disorder), Funcasor (Canary Islands Foundation for People with Deafness) and ADEIN (Inclusive Sports Association for people with disabilities of the Island of Tenerife), the latter being the representative entity of the Island in the First Division of wheelchair basketball, in addition to the sponsorship of the Government of the Canary Islands and the collaboration of the DISA Foundation.
This was a 100% online course of 40 hours per student: 8 hours of theory, 8 hours of practice, 12 hours of independent work, 10 hours of final project, and 2 hours of assessments. The course was structured into four modules, two per month: Module 0, Introduction to learning models, emotions, and sports psychology; Module 1, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); Module 2, Hearing impairment/deafness; and Module 3, Physical disability and wheelchair basketball.
The course aims to provide people with different abilities with the tools and knowledge to train people with functional diversity.
Likewise, the CB Canarias Foundation launched ‘Encounter between Families’ in November 2024 with training activities on bullying and harassment prevention, frustration management and the handling of new addictions that threaten young people such as the use of social networks and gambling.
This training is led by psychologist Jorge Pastor and is offered in collaboration with the DISA Foundation. The auditorium of the Buen Consejo School in La Laguna has been the usual venue for these activities.
