The CB Canarias Foundation has helped facilitate basketball participation in organizations working with adults with disabilities. Since February 2025, the Foundation has supported the Acamán team of the Tenerife Hospital Foundation. The creation of this basketball team resulted from an agreement signed by both organizations, focused on promoting inclusive sports.
The team has about thirty members, boys and girls belonging to the resources Public School of Special Education Acamán, Acquired Brain Injury and Day Care Center, all of them aged 17 and over.
In addition to providing equipment for training sessions, the CB Canarias Foundation also allocates experienced coaches to the project who work together with the coaches from the Tenerife Hospital Foundation during training sessions.
Along the same lines, in April 2025 the Foundation and Apedeca (Association for the support of dependent people in the Canary Islands) signed an agreement by which both entities began to collaborate in promoting inclusion through basketball.
Thanks to this agreement, ‘Hoop + Sport’ was launched, an activity for adults with intellectual disabilities, providing them with a space for integration, physical activity, and the promotion of personal autonomy. The CEIP La Salud school in Santa Cruz is the venue for this activity.
Since the CB Canarias Foundation began working on inclusive basketball, it was identified that there was a gap to be filled in this field: that of adults with disabilities. The agreements with Apedeca and Hospitalarias Tenerife help to partially fill that gap.
